Message from President, Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh


The perpetual and warm friendship between Bangladesh and Japan is tied to a historical context. Since the independence of Bangladesh, Japan has been a trusted friend, as showing great interest of bilaterally moving forward with the spirit of cordiality and partnership. As one of the major development partners, Japan has extended full hand supports on various  social, educational, cultural, economical and technological co-operations for the socio-economic development of Bangladesh. In 2000, on the occasion of 30 years of diplomatic relation between Japan and Bangladesh, Bangladeshi alumni of Japanese Universities formed the Japanese Universities Alumni Association of Bangladesh (JUAAB), under the guidance and support of the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka. The prime vision of JUAAB was to promote friendship between the two countries through sharing and exchange of culture, knowledge and technology.

JUAAB is a highly dignified  socio-cultural organization constituted with skilled professionals from different disciplines including Engineering, Medical, Dental, Agricultural, Livestock, Fisheries, Basic and Natural Sciences, Arts and Music, Law, Business and Social Sciences who are working in different universities, research institutes,  business organizations and administration with the focused objectives of strengthening the bonds of friendship between Bangladesh and Japan; promoting  friendship, co-operation and mutual understanding  among the alumni of Japanese universities in Bangladesh; promoting  exchange of academic, scientific, technological and cultural activities between Bangladesh and Japan; fostering socioeconomic development of the country through  strengthening partnership with the government and the other stakeholders for accelerating efforts toward reducing poverty and achieving Millennium Development Goals; and ultimately, moving towards creation of a world of peace and prosperity through cooperation and friendship efforts, whereby advancing international cooperation to work for building a more peaceful and prosperous nation.

JUAAB has been organizing various socio-cultural and academic programmes in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, Japan Foundation, Universities and other social organizations. The programmes include education seminar, orientation for MEXT scholarship awardees, conduct of JLPT, running Japanese Language School, Ikebana Training, Japanese Language Speech Contest, Social Gathering and Observing JUAAB family, advocacy, counseling and consultancy support for higher studies in Japan, observance of national days and exchange programme of students  and teachers between the two countries.  JUAAB also plays an active role in the South Asian Federation of Japanese Universities Alumni Association (SAFJUAA).

Due to the enthusiastic devotion, sincerity and hard work of the current executive committee, JUAAB has grown to be an active and vibrant organization. The constitution has been amended and the JUAAB Foundation created, in order to make her a self-reliant organization. She has now own office space as "JUAAB HOME" in Shyamoli of Dhaka, that forwards her one-step further towards self-sustenance.  JUAAB Language School offers several short and long term courses, considering the growing need of the first-hand Japanese learning in the country. The school, being run mostly by Japanese native teachers, has been considered to be one of the most functional, result-oriented and prestigious language schools of the country.

The JUAAB and the alumni are now extending various supports for continuing research, consultancy services and welfare for the professional interests of the members of the Association.
